The Government of Nepal has approved the Fourth Amendment to the Nepal Citizenship Regulations, 2082. After 14 days of peaceful protest, this has become a historic example for the country — proving that rights can also be achieved through peace, patience, and unity.
Taken during the 2079 movement for Janmasiddha citizenship, this protest marked an important moment in our collective struggle. It shows the unity, courage, and peaceful determination of citizens who came forward to demand recognition, justice, and equal rights.
On the ninth day of our peaceful movement demanding approval of the Citizenship Regulations, participants faced police suppression and pressure. Even in difficult circumstances, the struggle continued with courage, unity, and commitment to justice and equal rights.
On 15 December, a public call was made to gather at Maiti Ghar by 12 PM and move together for a press conference, raising a strong question: in a country led by a woman Prime Minister, why is citizenship through the mother’s name still denied? The call reflected the urgency, pain, and determination behind the movement for equal citizenship rights.
This story reflects the deep pain caused by discrimination in citizenship rights. While recognition was given by the state, delays and unequal treatment left many families suffering for years. Behind every citizenship issue are real lives, emotional struggles, and uncertain futures that must never be ignored.
